What is X3D?

X3D is a successor to Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML). It is a file format standard for 3D multimedia and shared virtual worlds on the internet. This language has an XML syntax and extensions to VRML. It is used by application developers and content creators to implement interactive 3D graphics and multimedia content that can be published on the internet and on stand-alone computers. It also has the ability to encode the scene using an XML syntax.
